Basics of Doing Business with the Federal Government

Presenter: Jim Regan, Director –
                  Virginia Procurement Technical Assistance Program (PTAP)
                 
at George Mason University School of Public Policy,
                  Mason Enterprise Center

Are there opportunities for your small business to do business with the federal government?  What are the programs and procedures for taking advantage of such opportunities?  Jim Regan has 25+ years of experience in commercial and government business development/ management with both small and large corporations.  As PTAP Director, he applies these qualifications to assisting businesses in pursuit of their  government business objectives.  Mr. Regan will overview PTAP services and offer guidance on:

  • How to get started (NAICS, PSC’s, FSC’s) and register for selling to the federal government (CCR, DSBS, ORCA, VetBiz)
  • How to use market research tools like FEDBIZOPPS and FPDS to determine which government entities want to buy your goods and services
  • Federal procurement regulations, goals and programs for small business such as 8(a), SDB, HUBZONE, WO and SDVOB
  • Associations and an alphabet soup of resources like OSDBU’s, SBLO’s, PCR’s, CMR’s, GSA, FSS and SBIR/STTR
  • Marketing your business to the government
